The chief of the Florida Department of Corrections announced that the warden of the Dade Correctional Institution has been fired after a mentally ill inmate died at the facility.

Jerry Cummings was terminated less than a week after he was suspended in connection with the death of another inmate at the Florida City state prison.

In this most recently reported case, the inmate was allegedly tortured and killed in a scalding hot shower.

Corrections officers at the Dade Correctional Institution have been accused of the abuse of inmates.

Recent reports have highlighted the systematic abuse of mentally ill patients.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida is applauding the firing, but a spokesman says more needs to be done.
