Marriage Forms Altered in the Keys

Marriage Forms Altered in the Keys
Posted July 20th, 2014 @ 7:24am

Marriage-license forms in the Keys change for same-sex couples.

The vows reading "husband and wife" have been changed to "first spouse, second spouse".

The rewrite was made after a judge's ruling that gays can marry in Monroe County, even though that ruling is still pending a state appeal. Republican Attorney General Pam Bondi issued the appeal that creates an immediate stay prohibiting any same-sex marriage licences.

Two other cases are pending in Florida courts that challenge the state's marriage ban.

Many have been calling the Monroe County's clerk office with plans to fly to Key West to be married.
