Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives are pushing ahead with the formation of a select committee to investigate the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya in 2012.

South Florida GOP Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a former chairperson of the House Foreign Affairs Committee says it is a shame that it has come to this, but insists Republicans have to keep the pressure on President Barack Obama's administration, saying it has dodged the issue repeatedly.

The panel is made up of seven Republicans and five Democrats, though the Democrats may be not actually participate.

They claim the entire creation of the committee is basically an election-year circus.
