Turnout Low In Miami-Dade Primary Early Voting
Posted August 13th, 2014 @ 9:00am

Miami-Dade County is offering the maximum 14 days of early voting and is opening 20 early voting sites, but over the first two days of the early voting period just 53,000 people have cast their votes for the August 26 primary election.

50,000 of those are via absentee ballots.

Combined, that accounts for about 3 percent of the county's total registered voters.

Barry University political science professor Dr. Sean Foreman chalks up the voter apathy to the summer scheduling and the lack of interesting primary races. There are no presidential or U.S. Senate elections this year and Gov. Rick Scott (R) and Charlie Crist (D) have all but locked up their parties' nominations in the race for the governor's mansion.
