In 1980 Blondie hit #1 with "The Tide Is High"!
From the band's fifth album, "Autoamerican," Blondie would score their third number one single on the Billboard Hot 100 . "The Tide Is High" was originally a song written by John Holt, for the Jamaican group the Paragons, with Holt singing lead.
Autoamerican would be another hit album for Blondie as both "The Tide is High" and Rapture would hit #1, with "Rapture", become the first hip-hop single to top the charts.
The song would continue to be covered as the British girl group Atomic Kitten had a hit with it in 2002, and rapper Kardinal Offishall had a minor hit with it in 2008.
