Today We Got Raw Power!

Today Punk Rock became an inspiration with the release of Raw Power!

Although it was The Stooges third album it would be the first album under the Iggy and The Stooges name as the band had been broken up and reunited with new members to help Iggy record the album. Unlike the first two albums, Raw Power stepped away from the more groove oriented Garage Rock sound that birthed The Stooges and ripped harder to create the template for Punk Rock till the Ramones would come along to redefine it.

As a fan of the band, David Bowie would help produce the album with Iggy, but they were only one given one day to mix the album, which resulted in the record's poor fidelity. The album was not commercially successful, but Raw Power gained a cult following, many of whom would go on to create punk bands themselves. There are many who erroneously considered the album a forerunner of punk rock, but that would be like saying that Black Sabbath is a forerunner of Heavy Metal. Just because the term has not been coined yet, does not take away from the creation of the thing.

The album's title track, along with "Search And Destroy" & the haunting "Gimme Danger" laid the foundation for all punk rockers in its wake, influencing, The Sex Pistols, The Smiths, Nirvana, The Ramones, The Clash, and The New York Dolls.

There would be no punk rock today if not for The Stooges and Raw Power!
