Wanna Be A Penguin Postman? Here's How!

A Charity is seeking a hard-working, self-motivated individual for a temporary position in Antarctica!

The U.K. Antarctic Heritage Trust, runs the famed “penguin post office” in Antarctica, and the group is looking for three new postmen for the upcoming Antarctic season.

The post office is based on Goudier Island, near the Antarctic Peninsula, which makes it the southernmost post office in the world. It processes up to 80,000 letters and postcards, sent by the 18,000 cruise ship passengers who stop by during the summer. The organization needs employees to sort mail, sell postage stamps, care for the aging buildings, run the gift shop, and count the 1,500 gentoo penguins that live there!

The organization is looking for a base leader, a general assistant and a shop manager, that are residents of the United Kingdom. After undergoing extensive training, they’ll deploy, and once they arrive, they’ll be cut off from the outside world and sharing a bunk room with up to five other people throughout the season. Port Lockroy has no running water, so be comfortable using a bucket instead of a toilet, also you won’t be able to take baths or showers, except when passing cruise ships invite you onboard.

“Due to the terrain, it is not possible to go for a run or take a long walk if you need time on your own,” the application states. “Could you cope with being confined to a small island with four teammates for five months?”

The job isn't for everyone, but with the right skills and experience, it is a “unique opportunity to live in a landscape that makes you feel pure awe and wonder, where pioneering generations have gone before us, making groundbreaking discoveries about our planet,” Camilla Nichol, the trust’s CEO, says.
