Today is National Apple Pie Day!
This is the day we celebrate the desert that's as American as itself!
Now, the first apple pie recipe was printed in England back in 1381, however as the apple pie existed well before the Pilgrims landed, but it's mass popularity expanded here in the US, thus the phrase "as American as apple pie".
At the turn of the 20th century, toasted cereals were becoming a 'health food' fad, and pie went down in favor, until Apple pies were being branded as more nutritious than other pies, saving the reputation.
