It's National Bikini Day!!

Today we celebrate the greatest invention since opposable thumbs, The Bikini!

Since July 5, 1946, women have hit the beach and laid out poolside in the grand bathing suit known as bikinis. Named after the Bikini Atoll, where the U.S. conducted atomic tests, the two-piece bathing suit debuted in Paris, by French designer Jaques Heim. Helm wanted to name it the "atom," but designer Louis Réard named "bikini" and the word stuck.

By the end of World War II, women cast aside their one-piece bathing suits for the simple and sexier two-piece. The States didn't take to the bikini at first, unlike Euroes who wore the bikini after the war, Americans prude standars did not accept it until the 1960s.

Today, the bikini comes in all shapes and sizes, and has become the go to beachwear for the summer. So, ladies act like you live in Miami or L.A., and celebrate the day by rockin your best two piece, and when you do post it up and hastag #NationalBikiniDay on social media!
