Break out your chopsticks cause it's National Chop Suey Day!
Today is the day that we recognize the American Chinese culinary classic that we all know and love.
Chop suey, just means assorted pieces, is a dish in American Chinese cuisine, as the main ingredients are meat (chicken, fish, beef, prawns or pork) and eggs, with the meat cooked over high heat, and added vegetables (usually bean sprouts, cabbage, and celery). The dish is bound in a sauce, with rice. It's been a staple of Chinese restaurants in America for centuries now and is as classic as pizza itself.
Ironically, it has nothing to do with the iconic System Of A Down song, which is considered by most as one of the greatest metal songs of all time. The song was originally titled "Suicide", but the name was changed as a result of pushback from Columbia Records, so the title became wordplay, as "Suey" is "suicide", "chopped" in half, thus Chop Suey. The fact that Serj Tankian is eating Chop Suey in the video is just keeping up with the joke.
Head on out to your favorite Chinese place and enjoy some Chop Suey and when you do crank up some System Of A Down while you do!
