Phil Collins is of course highly regarded as one of the greatest pop singers of his time, but what many will argue at times is his career as a drummer.
Phil Collins has always prided himself as a drummer first and a singer second. The man only became a drummer when Peter Gabriel decided to go solo and leave Genesis, so Collins took the mantle of lead singer, while Bill Bruford sat in for Collins in the band as King Crimson was dismantled by Robert Fripp. Collins would lead Genesis out of prog rock exclusivity and into pop rock superstardom, eventually extending his singing into a massively successful solo career that made him one of the biggest acts of the 80's.
Despite all that, his love of drumming and Jazz has always been a part of his career until recent years and health issues have forced him to put up his sticks. Now, Drumeo is has created a documentary chronicling Phil Colins the drummer. Phil Collins: Drummer First is a documentary made by the YouTube channel that looks into the career of one of the best known drummers in prog rock history.
"I’m not a singer that plays a bit of drums; I’m more of a drummer that sings a bit”. Collins said in the documentary. “I’m a drummer”.
