Irma Updates From Broward County

Officials in Broward County continues are working hard to recover from Hurricane Irma.

In terms of electricity... 

FPL reports that an estimated 34 percent of Broward residences remain without power. There are currently 2,840 crews working across the county to get all power restored. FPL expects everything to be back up and running as normal by Sunday.

In terms of water... 

Four Water Distribution Centers are now open:

  • CB Smith Regional Park, 900 N Flamingo Road, Pembroke Pines 
  • Howard C. Forman Campus, Cypress Drive, Pembroke Pines
  • McTyre Park, 3501 SW 56th Avenue, West Park
  • Patrick Meli Park , 2901 SW 52nd Street, Dania Beach

In terms of roadways...

Most roads have been cleared at this time. Broward Count officials expect all roads to be passable by the end of the weekend. Residents are asked to please call your city or 311 to report any significant debris in roadways.

In terms of parks and recreation...

Many county parks have resumed full or partial operations at this time. City park information is available by contacting your city directly.

Similarly, a number of county libraries are open Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. with limited services. 

In terms of county court...

County courts are closed Wednesday with the exception of First Appearance, Shelter and Juvenile Detention Hearings.

In terms of disabilities...

Individuals with disabilities needing assistance with repairs or damage to their residence, taking down hurricane shutters, accessing generators for power restoration can call 954-722-6400 or visit the Center for Independent Living of Broward website at www.cilbroward.org.

In terms of lending a hand...

The United Way of Broward County is partnering with Hands on Broward to deploy volunteers who are distributing supplies and helping with repairs for any resident in need as requests come in. 

If you would like to donate items such personal hygiene items, non-perishable food, water, diapers, cleaning supplies or food gift cards. Please contact 3-1-1 for more information. No clothing is needed.
