Miami-Dade County Mayor Resists More Restrictions

The mayor of Florida's hard-hit Miami-Dade County isn't ready to put more restrictions on restaurants as coronavirus cases continue to spike.

Mayor Carlos Gimenez said Monday he wants to see if his ban on indoor dining, a 10 p.m. curfew, and a countywide mask order can stabilize the rising infection numbers before forcing more businesses to close.

Gimenez is getting pressure from restaurant groups on one side and cities in the county on the other.

Miami-Dade is seeing many more coronavirus cases and hospitalizations than in March, when he ordered all nonessential businesses to shut down.
