Metallica will be hitting the road in 2023 and 2024 in support of a new album, 72 Seasons.

The band announced the album and tour Monday morning, upon the release of new single "Lux Æterna." You can watch the official music video for "Lux Æterna" via the player below!

72 Seasons will arrive on April 14 on all formats. It will be the band's first new LP since 2016's Hardwired ... To Self-Destruct.

Frontman James Hetfield described the theme of 72 Seasons in a statement.

The title refers to "the first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves. The concept that we were told 'who we are' by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adults experience is reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry."

The band will support the new album with the ambitious 'M72' world tour, with 46 dates announced for 22 cities from April 2023 to September 2024. The band has promised two shows in each city with entirely unique setlists at each performance with no repeated songs.

Support acts along the way will include Pantera, Mammoth WVH and Greta Van Fleet.
