LISTEN: Florida Polytechnic University Wants to Hire 25 New Professors

LAKELAND -- Many universities have had to cut back on hiring or even lose positions because of the pandemic.

But one Florida college is on a hiring drive.

STEM-focused Florida Polytechnic University in Lakeland plans to hire 25 new professors.

University provost and executive vice president Dr. Terry Parker says they're looking for new hires in disciplines that include engineering and applied sciences, environmental engineering, physics, mathematics and computer science... with two of the latter positions focused in the growing field of AI... artificial intelligence.

Parker says the university has been watching its budget and saving its pennies for the opportunity to grow the quantity and quality of its faculty. He says as a relatively new university (founded in 2014), Florida Poly offers professors the chance to shape the institution's future in a way that established schools can't match.
