It's The Most Wonderful Time Of Year For Stone Crab Lovers

Time to get crackin'. Today marks the start of the 2021 stone crab season. Gary Graves with Keys Fisheries in Marathon says it may take a few weeks to rev up since it's been so hot with very little wind, meaning the crabs will not be moving around much. This marks the second year new regulations require a shortened season, running today until May 1st to increase the supply in years to come. Officials have increased the minimum size for claws this year to two-and-seven-eighths inches, crabs must be captured in baited traps and declawed before being released.
