Man pleads guilty to threatening to decapitate prominent politicians

A Florida man has pled guilty to threatening to behead House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Palm Beach Gardens resident Paul Vernon Hoeffer, 60, pled guilty to federal charges on Friday and faces 15 years in prison after phoning in threats to the offices of the Democratic lawmakers in 2019.

According to court documents, in March of 2019, Hoeffer called Pelosi’s office and told a staffer to tell Pelosi to step down, otherwise he'd “rattle her head with bullets."

In other calls, Hoeffer threatened to decapitate Pelosi and told the California Democrat to “sleep with one eye open.”

As part of his plea agreement, Hoeffer also admitted to phoning in a racist threat to Kim Foxx, a state prosecutor for the Chicago area.

On Friday, Hoeffer plead guilty to three counts of interstate transmission of threats to kidnap or injure.

Each count carries up to five years in prison.
