Florida College Campus Goes on Lockdown After Umbrella Mistaken For Rifle

Better safe than sorry, right? Miami Dade College's Kendall Campus was put on lockdown Wednesday morning after an umbrella in a bag was mistaken for a rifle.

According to Miami Herald, on Wednesday, around 9:14 am someone reported someone on a bicycle with a "military-style" backpack, carrying what appeared to be a rifle. As a precaution, the campus was put on lockdown, and everyone was sent to shelter at a secure location while Miami-Dade police searched the area.

Officers saw that the person had an umbrella, not a gun, and the "all clear" was given, Juan Mendieta, the college's communications director, said.
