Miami-Dade College Training Students To Fill Industry Needs

A South Florida school is responding to a shortage in two industries.

In an effort to get more nurses out in the field, Miami-Dade College has launched a Certified Nursing Assistant program.

"We believe it's going to be a true driving force in creating a pipeline of trained CNAs who can then move forward to our LPN program," says Executive Vice President and Provost Dr. Malou Harrison.

It gives students an opportunity to train in hospitals while they work for their Licensed Practical Nurse and RN certifications.

"Miami-Dade College has pledged to grow our nursing program by 40% over the next three years so we can be part of the solution," Harrison adds.

The school is also launching a commercial driving program to help get truckers on the road to ease supply chain issues.

Harrison says, "This training program provides them the skills and training needed to apply for the state certification so that they can either go out into the industry as entrepreneurs or they can drive for these companies."

The fall term begins on Monday.
