Preseason I was pretty bullish on the Miami Hurricanes. I felt everything was in place for this team to take a serious step forward and coast to the Coastal crown. Obviously, I was wrong. The 2019 version of the Miami Hurricanes came out playing mistake-prone football from the jump. Add to that what looked like the worst offensive line ever assembled in any level of football, things got negative really fast.
From the moment Manny Diaz was hired as the new head coach, the energy and bravado coming out of Coral Gables was undeniable. The fanbase heard every word, and more importantly, drank it all up like a Cafecito on a Sunday morning.
And then the team came out and stepped on their 'you know what'.
Well, finally on Saturday, at a trailer park surrounded by a brick wall in Tallahassee, the Hurricane football team that the fanbase thought we were going to get, finally showed up in a resounding 27-10 win. While we can complain about why it took 9 games to see them, I'd rather be extremely grateful that we're finally seeing them. The defense was almost the defense we remembered from last year. The offense was the best we've seen it in, well, a very long time. And best of all, we beat the Seminoles in their place, AGAIN and we now have a 3-game winning streak in the rivalry.
Listen, I realize that due to the preseason expectations we all came in with, there is no salvaging this season at this point. Best case scenario is we win out, get to 8-4 and then win our Bowl game for 9-4. While disappointing, at least we'll go into the holidays and early signing period with some momentum. So that's my new expectation. Beat Louisville, FIU and Duke to close it out.
For the fanbase, I have another expectation, that we end the divisions this season has caused and all get on board that Jarren Williams is our starting quarterback moving forward. The Hive needs to get smoked out. Go Canes!
