Another weekend is in the can and we have to talk about the interesting box office results. All of the major trades, like THR, have the major highlight: Terminator: Dark Fate has bombed. Now, to be clear, the film won, but it was still a bomb. It was just lucky enough to jit the #1 slot. t's likely to result in a MAJOR loss for Skydance, Paramount and Disney/Fox (all of whom are partnered on the film). It came in with $29 million domestic and only $94.6 million internationally.
Overall, the sixth installment of the Terminator franchise could lose $100-$120 million dollars. It's a bad situation, even with reviews being mostly okay to pretty positive and people praising director Tim Miller (of Deadpool fame). Personally, I found the film to be solid. A decent action film with good lead performances. Easily the best since the second film. But I think it's a case of "too little, too late." People were burned on this franchise.
In other box office news, Harriet did better than expected with $12 million. Motherless Brooklyn bombed with just $3.7 million. And lastly, Joker crossed the $900 million mark. Could it hit a billion? It's certainly possible.
