Wholesome Icons Collide In Photo Of Hanks as 'Mister Rogers'

Tom Hanks is, without a shadow of a doubt, a national treasure. The multi-time Academy Award winning actor has attained legendary status through consistent, memorable work and an equally consistent positive and professional attitude. And now he's about to play a man that's equally legendary and equally kind: Fred Rogers. Yes, as in 'Mister Rogers.'

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter (and the rest of the Hollywood trades), Sony Pictures revealed on their Twitter the very first look at the fan favorite actor as Rogers in the upcoming film entitled You Are My Friend.

The film, while not a strict "biopic" according to director Marielle Heller, will tell the story of the extraordinary friendship between the classic television host and journalist Tom Junod, who recently appeared in the Rogers documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor? and had many poignant things to say about his late friend. The film is set to be released in 2019.
