'Rocketman' Teaser Debuts Taron Egerton As Elton John

Taron Egerton, who will star in 'Rocketman'

Biopics about music legends are nothing new, but now it seems we're beginning a streak of flashy, bold, flamboyant tales. This year sees the release of Bohemian Rhapsody, the story of Freddie Mercury and the rise of Queen. But next year will be special for Elton John fans, as the new biopic entitled Rocketman is set for release on May 31st, 2019. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter and various other trades, Paramount Pictures has released the very first look!

The film will star Taron Egerton as the legendary star, with the supporting cast including Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, and Bryce Dallas Howard. What's interesting about Egerton's casting is that it won't be the first time he's performed one of Sir Elton's hits for the big screen. He sang the classic song "I'm Still Standing" in the 2016 children's film, Sing. Evidently, he performed well enough to earn himself a shot at the whole catalogue.

The film will be directed by Dexter Fletcher, who actually finished the production of Bohemian Rhapsody after that film's major directorial issues. He seems to be going for a truly fantastical take on Elton's story, with dazzling and inventive visuals.
