Is Adam Sandler About to Become An Oscar Winner?

The National Board of Review, which is made up of film enthusiasts, industry professionals, academics, and filmmaker, has now weighed in with its picks for the best movies and performances of 2019.

“The Irishman” was named this year’s best film, the director award went to Quentin Tarantino for “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” However, the biggest news of the night was Adam Sandler winning best actor for his role in new Safdie brothers film Uncut Gems, which also stars Idina Menzel and Lakeith Stanfield.

Sandler beat out favorites Joaquin Phoenix for Joker, Robert De Niro for The Irishman and Adam Driver for Marriage Story.

This could mean there's an Oscar nomination in his future. In 2018 NBR winners included Viggo Mortensen for Best Actor (“Green Book”), Lady Gaga for Best Actress (“A Star Is Born”), Sam Elliott for Best Supporting Actor (“A Star Is Born”), and Regina King for Best Supporting Actress (“If Beale Street Could Talk”). All of these actors went on to earn Oscar nominations.

Now Sandler says he'll make an awful movie 'on purpose' if he doesn't win an Oscar this year. Talking with Howard Stern he said, "If I don’t get it, I’m going to f***ing come back and do one again that is so bad on purpose just to make you all pay."

Good luck Adam!
