Remember when you had to pull into the nearest gas station to ask for directions if you got lost? Well, those days are well and truly over with the power of Google. I am totally a slave to Google Maps. I hate to admit it but I can't always rely on my memory alone to get me to where I need to be. Sometimes I want to see expected traffic on my route, the fastest route at a specific time of day or when I'm passing a speed trap. My friends and family make jokes at my expense about it all the time.
But Google maps is King and they've recently taken direction giving to a whole nother level. Initially launching in 2019 Google Live View provided us with directions through our camera, so we could see real-life with AI arrows over the top, to point in which direction we should be going. Super handy when travelling a new city or country for sure, but when you have normal maps, kinda unnecessary, right? But it seems that was just the test run and what they really made it for was indoor use! Now, think about how many times you've been in a mall or airport and been totally lost and in a hurry, couldn't this really help you out? I stop all the time asking service agents for assistance on which way I should be heading. "Excuse me, sir, I have five minutes to make it from my gate to the next terminal, can you point me in the right direction?" If I had access to an indoor, live view, map my life would be so much easier!
This is what Google Live View can do:
Zoom in to see the indoor floor plan of a building. You can also search within the building once you’re fully zoomed in.
Use the level switcher in the bottom right-hand corner to move from floor to floor in the building.
Digital directory in the palm of your hand
Easily recognizable symbols represent different points of interest inside
Did anyone else instantly think, wow if only George Clooney had access to this feature in Oceans 11, they would have been able to case the joint way faster!?
No, just me? Okay.
