Today is National Hat Day!

Today is the day we celebrate the fedora, cap, cloche, derby, or sunhat. Although it's fairly commonplace to see baseball hats and poe boy hats out in public, today is the day you can whip out your best lid with no judgement. Wear your tuque, stocking cap, beanie, and cowboy hat, this is the day to put on any hat you got.

The day has been celebrated since 1983, as schools, libraries, and museums have observed National Hat Day, by inviting students and patrons to wear their favorite hat. People show up in pirate hats and football helmets, as patrol officers, postal workers, restaurant servicers also wore their hats. The day also commemorates the 1797 date when the first top hat was madeby haberdasher John Hetherington.
