It's National Cherry Pie Day!

It's National Cherry Pie Day!

It is the day that pie lovers crank up some Warrant and eat their favorite pie! Whether they eat it for breakfast, lunch or dinner, like The Rock says, anytime is a good time for some pie!

It is even fitting that we celebrate the cherry pie so close to Presidents Day, as we all know the legend of President George Washington and the cherry tree. Who cares if it's a myth the man liked cherries, it's one of his favorite foods!

The pie came to America when the first English settlers cooked their pies in long narrow pans calling them “coffyns”, and like English crust the American pie crusts often were not eaten, but made to hold the filling during baking. It was during the American Revolution that traditional crusts were created, which is why in the U.S., cherry pie is often referred to as a “great American dish.”

In the world of rock music no better song comes to mind when it comes to pie than, Warrant's "Cherry Pie". The song was a late addition to the band's second album, after the massive popularity of Aerosmith's "Love In Elevator", caused Warrant's label to want a similar song to market. Jani Lane wrote the song on a pizza box and modeled it after Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me". The song ended up becoming the title track for the album despite it originally being "Uncle Tom's Cabin", which ended up being the second release from the album. Cherry Pie became a massive success for the band despite their reluctance to add it to the album. The video featuring Lane's wife Bobbi Brown was a hit on MTV, and the song has since become an 80's hair metal anthem, despite being despised by Lane himself.
