Johnny Rotten Celebrates A Birthday Today!

It's Johnny Rotten's birthday!

Lead singer of the Sex Pistols, Rotten was a central part of the boom of punk in the UK in the 70's. His voice would tear through the singles "Anarchy in the U.K.", and "God Save the Queen" making him one of the most iconic singers of his time, and the Sex Pistols are regarded as one of the most influential acts in the history of music.

After the Pistols disbanded in 1978, Rotten would go by his birthname John Lydon and form Public Image Ltd, which would break out as one of the pioneers of the post-punk movement. More experimental in sound the band produced a string of singles, including "Public Image", "Death Disco", and "Rise", throughout the 80's before going on hiatus in 1993.

Lydon would continue to release solo work in the 90's, and collab with several artists most notably with the group Leftfield on the single "Open Up", which gave Lydon a dance hit in the UK. Lydon would reunite with the Pistols for a tour and reform with P.I.L. in 2009.

One of the most recognized voices in rock history Happy Birthday Johnny Rotten!
