Today is Mike Campbell's birthday!
A founding member of Tom Petty's Heartbreakers, Campbell's impact in the band is second to none as he co-wrote many their hits with Petty, like "Refugee", "You Got Lucky", and the classic "Runnin' Down a Dream", from Petty's solo album, where his solo at the end of that song has now become iconic.
Mike also worked as a session guitarist and songwriter composing and playing on Don Henley's "The Boys of Summer" & "The Heart of the Matter" and worked on Stevie Nicks's solo albums. Campbell, also has his own band The Dirty Knobs, which released two albums.
Rolling Stone magazine named Mike Campbell to their top 100 guitarists, and Mike was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002 as a member of The Heartbreakers.
