Today we celebrate the birthday of Henry Rollins!
Rollins initially got his start in the short-lived State of Alert in 1980, but eventually became better known as the frontman for Black Flag. A fan of the band, Rollins eventually became the singer and powered the typical hardcore punk band into an evolved version of their former selves, using his poetry to create a more educated delivery of the typical angry youth attitude that bands of the time generated.
Following the band's breakup, he created the record label 2.13.61 and released spoken word albums. He would jump back into music forming Rollins Band, and toured heavily throughout the 90's.
Rollins has also become a well known character actor, showing up in Michael Mann's "Heat", Johnny Pneumonic, and a recurring role in Sons of Anarchy. Today, he campaigns for various causes, including Gay rights, World Hunger Relief, the West Memphis Three, and an end to all war.
