Today Bowie Was A Young American!

In 1975 David Bowie introduced us to "Young Americans"!

His ninth album, was a hard left turn from the glam rock he just finished with after disbanding the Spiders From Mars. Music critics may have given it the moniker of blue-eyed soul, but Bowie label it himself "plastic soul".

The album would begin his work with guitarist Carlos Alomar, who became one of Bowie's most frequent collaborators, and vocalists Ava Cherry, Robin Clark and soul legend Luther Vandross, who at the time was just starting out. The album was a massive hit in the US, reaching the top 10 on the Billboard chart, as the single "Fame" became Bowie's first number one hit. Bowie himself had mixed feelings about the album, although it ultimately became largely influential, as Young Americans has been reissued and was remastered throughout the years.
