CBS aired the 100th show of Billy Joel's residency at Madison Square Garden, with a two-hour special tilted "Billy Joel: The 100th – Live at Madison Square Garden."
Fans, however were upset after the broadcast was delayed 30 minutes due to the 2024 Masters Tournament going long, which ultimately cut off in the middle of Joel's "Piano Man" for local news programming.
CBS promoted the Billy Joel concert special for weeks, so the fan backlash to preempt it for a half hour and then cut him off in the middle of one of his most storied songs should come to no surprise for the network.
Joel's special is still available to stream in its entirety on Paramount+, but the fact that you have to pay for a subscription for something that they could see on network television is yet another rub Billy Joel fans are not taking lightly.
