A woman in Brazil used her dead uncle to get a loan.
Érika de Souza Vieira wheeled her uncle into a Brazilian bank, and clerks sensed something wrong with how he looked, as she tried to use him to sign off on a $3,250 loan. Her uncle, Paulo Roberto Braga, however was in fact dead. Vieira was, then arrested and charged with violating a corpse and attempted fraud.
“She knew he was dead … he had been dead for at least two hours,” the investigating officer, Fábio Luiz Souza, said. “I have never come across a story like this in 22 years.
The man had visible signs of rigor mortis, as footage of the attempt to cash in on her relative’s corpse is now viral on social media.
Chief Souza is now investigating if Vieira was in fact Braga’s niece.
