It's raining gold in Antarctica!
In the glaciers, is Mount Erebus, which is the southernmost active volcano on Earth, and is one of three volcanoes that form Ross Island. Scientists observe the volcano through the Mount Erebus Volcano Observatory, as the volcano regularly pumps out plumes of gas and steam and ejects boulders of partially molten rock known as "volcanic bombs." The volcano bursts of gas sprays tiny crystals of metallic gold that estimates to 80 grams of gold a day, worth around $6,000.
The gold has been found miles away from Mount Erebus, and researchers have detected traces of the gold dust in air up to 621 miles away from the volcano.
Now getting to Antarctica is pretty expensive and life there is pretty bleak unless you're a scientist, but there be gold in them there hills, and if you're up to it and fortune to be made.
