Thin Lizzy's calling back on a classic with a new video for their classic "Whiskey In The Jar"!
Thin Lizzy is one of those bands that had such a standard classic with "The Boys Are Back In Town," that much of their catalogue gets eclipsed by the hit, but those who know and love Hard Rock are fully aware of the long and glorious career of Thin Lizzy.
Whiskey In The Jar, is one of their most recognisable songs, as it's also an old Irish folk song, which dates back to the 1700s. The song became a hit for the band in 1972 as it rose to number 6 on the UK singles chart, but Thin Lizzy was never a fan of it. Even though it helped boost their presence for the release of their hit album "Vagabonds of the Western World," it would not end up on the album itself.
It may have been a popular song before Lizzy, but their version has been the influence since, as it has been covered by U2, Metallica, Belle & Sebastian, The Pogues, Pulp, Bryan Adams, Gary Moore and Simple Minds. The song helped make the world aware of Thin Lizzy's sound and helped pave the way for their run through the 70's.
