It's Noel Gallagher's birthday!
The genius founder of BritPop Icons Oasis, is one of the most successful songwriters in British music history! Eight UK number-one singles and writer of ten UK number-one albums, Noel is considered to be one of the most influential songwriters of his time.
Gallagher joined his brother Liam had joined a band called the Rain, which would later become Oasis, and their debut, Definitely Maybe was a massive success. Their second album, (What's the Story) Morning Glory? hit the top of the album charts and would push their third album, Be Here Now to became the fastest-selling album in UK chart history. By the end of the 90's Britpop would run out of steam and Oasis would begin to fall apart. Noel woul form his new band High Flying Birds, and released four albums, with moderate success.
As the musical leader of Oasis, Gallagher was regarded as a pioneer, with many praising his songwriting, like Beatles producer George Martin who called him "the finest songwriter of his generation". Few in the music industry had that level of success over a period of time, like Noel did, and his songs have stood the test of time in a way that many of his contemporaries have not.
