Today we celebrate the birthday of Don Henley!
The iconic singer, drummer, writer, and all around rock god is a founding of the Eagles, who came together at first as a back-up band for Linda Ronstadt. The band would split from Ronstadt to break off on their own, and dominated the 70's behind some of the most classic songs and albums of all time. Henley would share singing duties with both Glenn Frey and Randy Meisner, but eventually he became the dominate voice in the group as Frey would continue to step aside to Henley's voice. "Witchy Woman", "Desperado", "Best of My Love", "One of These Nights", "Hotel California", "Life in the Fast Lane", and "The Long Run".
When the Eagles broke up in 1980, Henley went solo career and continued to hit big on the charts throughout the 80's with "Dirty Laundry", "The Boys of Summer", "All She Wants to Do Is Dance", "The End of the Innocence", and "The Heart of the Matter".
With Eagles Henley has sold over 150 million albums, won six Grammys, and has five number one singles, and six number one albums. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 98 and are the highest selling American band in history. On his own Henley has sold over 10 million albums, with eight top 40 singles, two Grammys and five MTV Video Music Awards. Henley is regarded as one of the greatest singers in modern music history and one of the greatest songwriters of all time.
