Alden's Box Office Report: 'Hobbs & Shaw' Wins The Weekend

(Universal)

Hello movie fans, and welcome to the weekend box office report! Who won the weekend of 8/2/19 to 8/4/19? Let's talk about the Top 3:

Well, it really shouldn't surprise anyone that the Fast & Furious franchise continues to perform extremely well! The franchise spin-off Hobbs & Shaw made $60.8 million domestically, with a worldwide total of $180.8 million. Whether it's The Hollywood Reporter or any other online outlet, one thing is clear: The Rock and Jason Statham are a duo that works for people. Sure, they'll have to make a lot more for this to be considered a rousing success, but this franchise seems to have no problem performing for our friends overseas. Are you tired of these movies? Or are you all in for more furious car action?

In other relatively unsurprising news, Disney continues to exert their dominance on the rest of the entertainment world. They already have all of the top grossing films for the year, and The Lion King remake just keeps bringing in the cash. It came in second place with $38.2 million, thus further proving that reviews and performance seem to be less connected than one would think. Did anyone have a problem with those ultra realistic animals?

Lastly, Tarantino followed up his best opening weekend ever with a cooler weekend, gaining $20 million. It's not a lot by the mega standards of the modern day, but hey, it's not that kind of movie. Smaller things like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood don't need to crush every single wallet in the world. It's already almost made the production budget back. But how much goes to Tarantino himself? We can only imagine.

What are you looking forward to for this weekend? Tell us about your movie going habits!
