Paul Castronovo's The Ten: Where To Drink Rum

Papa's Pilar Rum

With National Rum Day last week, our friends from Papa’s Pilar Rum sent over their really cool bartender, Andy Borbely from New Orleans. Andy created some crazy good rum drinks for us. I’m a rum guy, and enjoy rum in various situations such as:

1) On a beach…yeah, you’re on vacation and take a swim. After getting out of the water, a rum drink is perfect.

2) Under a tiki hut…I have one and trust me, it works.

3) On a boat…mixed with coconut water, stay hydrated my friends

4) In the Keys…I don’t need to explain this do I?

5) In the Bahamas…see above.

6) In any tropical setting…yeah, palm trees, water and the sun is where rum was born.

7) In front of a fireplace (sipping Papa’s Dark neat). This is the good life.

8) While eating Key Lime Pie (a rum and coke is the perfect partner)> I learned this at Joe’s Stone Crab. What a combo

9) While tailgating…I learned this in college and continue this tradition to this day

10) While pillaging. It was good enough for a pirate, it’s good enough for me.

Here’s an easy recipe for a daiquiri (and it’s not frozen, it’s on the rocks…the way God intended):

  • 2 oz. Papa’s Pilar Blonde
  • 1oz simple syrup
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • Ice
