'Joker' Laughs Its Way To A Record $93.5 Million Debut

(Warner Bros.)

Well, one thing is for sure now, movie fans. Online controversy and tension aren't enough to stop The Clown Prince of Crime. Joker has ascended to the top of the box office, earning $93.5 million domestically! The Hollywood Reporter also noted that the worldwide total was $234 million. This is a HUGE victory for Warner Bros., especially since they only spent about $55 million on the project.

Now, the film didn't just win this weekend. It also won the October record. It now has the best opening weekend of any October release. Check out this summary of the standings from THR:

"In North America, Joker bested last year's Venom, which started off with $80.3 million domestically. To boot, the controversial origin pic danced to one of the best three-day bows of all time for an R-rated title, as well as boasting the fifth-biggest weekend launch of 2019 to date. It is also Warner Bros.' biggest debut in two years."
