AEW & NXT Recap: Cody Fights Back & Balor Breaks Hearts

AEW

Welcome to the first installment of our Wednesday night wrestling recap. We're going to talk results and storylines from the two warring wrestling shows: AEW and NXT. Find out what happened this week, including details on a shocking villainous turn!

Let's start with AEW. Here are this week's match results:

  • Private Party vs. Lucha Bros - Winner: Lucha Bros
  • SCU vs. The Dark Order - Winner: SCU
  • Kenny Omega vs. Joey Janela - Winner: Kenny Omega
  • The Young Bucks vs. The Best Friends - Winner: The Young Bucks
  • Dr. Britt Baker, DMD vs. Jamie Hayter - Winner: Dr. Britt Baker, DMD
  • PAC vs. Jon Moxley - TIME LIMIT DRAW

The major highlight here is definitely the erupting situation between Cody and current AEW World Champion, Chris Jericho. The segments involving the two guys (and Jericho's Inner Circle group) have gotten more and more intense, serving as a great first feud for the new top championship. But this one was especially crazy as it ended with Cody punching through a glass window to get his hands on Jericho. Chaos ensued with MJF, Dustin Rhodes, and the legendary Diamond Dallas Page entering the brawl as well. Check out a clip of that action below:

Finn Balor

Here are the results for WWE's NXT:

Rhea Ripley vs. Bianca Belair - Winner: Rhea Ripley

Matt Riddle vs. Cameron Grimes - Winner: Matt Riddle

Swerve Scott & Breezango vs. Forgotten Sons - Winners: Swerve Scott & Breezango

Angel Garza vs. Jack Gallagher - Winner: Angel Garza

Tegan Nox & Dakota Kai vs. Jessamyn Duke & Marina Shafir - Winners and #1 Contender for the Women's Tag Championships: Tegan Nox & Dakota Kai

Roderick Strong (c) vs. Keith Lee vs. Dominic Dijakovic - Winner (and still North American Champion): Roderick Strong

The major highlight for NXT this week sent shockwaves throughout wrestling fandom: Finn Balor has turned heel. It initially appeared that Balor had emerged to back up other fan favorites Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa, but things quickly went south, much to the shock of everyone watching. Balor delivered a swift pele kick to Gargano and became a full on villain. This will be a welcome surprise to anyone familiar with his previous work in Japan where he was a dastardly heel. But it still makes us ask...why Finn? Why? Why break our hearts? Should be a really cool storyline, especially for any kids watching that aren't used to this sort of thing yet.

God I love wrestling. Check out the clip below:
