I told you so…
Months ago, when Inter Miami announced their plans to build a stadium with training ground on the site of Lockhart Stadium, I said it’ll be 2+ years…I’m pretty good.
Listen, it’s not like it was a difficult call to make. Dealing with Miami-Dade County for any major project is always a lesson in dysfunction. Here you have a giant parcel of land, Melreese Golf Club, which has been contaminated for DECADES yet the County was still allowing kids to use the course, because, you know, Miami…The Inter Miami ownership has told the county the cleanup for the site will be about $40 million and that they will foot the bill. They also are privately funding the 30,000 seat stadium themselves…ZERO PUBLIC MONEY.
So what’s the problem? The Miami-Dade County Commission can’t get out of their own way. As a result, it looks like Inter Miami’s Fort Lauderdale home will be just that for more than just two years.
Again, call me not surprised…
So Inter Miami fans, we’ll see you on March 14th for the home opener in Fort Lauderdale against the LA Galaxy (Beckham’s old team!)
