Since it’s National Daiquiri Month, I thought I would share some of my favorite (or favourite if you’re from Canada) recipe’s, one a classic based on the legendary Ernest Hemingway, who’s birthday also falls this month.
First, the Hemingway Daiquiri:
- 1.5 oz of Papa’s Pilar Blonde Rum
- 3/4 oz of Fresh lime juice
- 1/2 oz of fresh Grapefruit juice
- 1 tsp Maraschino liqueur
- 1 tsp sugar
- ice
Combine all ingredients and shake; strain…serve in a coupe glass and garnish with a lime wheel. If you’re into day drinking, this will change your life.
Now, I have been taking various MasterClasses, and the latest is in mixology…one of my favorite drinks is the Negroni. They’re real popular now, but I’ve been on them for about 15 years, ever since my Buddy told me his Grandfather drank them daily and lived to 105. The basic Negroni goes like this: Equal parts Gin, Campari and Sweet Vermouth, on the rocks with an orange slice. It’s the perfect pre dinner cocktail, but…with my Master Class here’s the twist!
Papa’s Negroni!
Yep, we get to use my beloved Pilar Rum - and remember, they will deliver it to your place and you can save 10% by using the promo code PAUL at shoppapaspilarrum.com
Papa’s Negroni:
- 1 oz Papa’s Pilar Dark rum
- 1 oz Campari or…Aperol
- 1 oz Sweet Vermouth (I prefer Antica Vermouth) or Sherry
- Grapefruit twist
Switching out Aperol for Campari and Sherry for Vermouth changes the complexion of the drink slightly but you’ll love it! Serve on the rocks and it will transport you right to Italy…or your couch if you have more than 2.
