Miami-Dade Police Captain and Father of Patriots RB, Killed In Cooper City


The Broward County Sheriff’s Office announced that at 1:01 p.m. on Sunday, a motor vehicle crash took place at the 11800 block of Griffin Road in Cooper City, Florida. In the accident, one car was flipped over and another was on fire.

Miami-Dade Police Captain Tyrone White, the father of New England Patriots running back James White, was pronounced dead at the scene. Paramedics airlifted his wife, Lisa White, as a trauma alert. A third victim, from the other car, was transported to an area hospital in unknown condition. Detectives said they are still investigating the crash.

White was inactive for his team's 35-30 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. NBC reported that Patriots owner Robert Kraft offered to fly White to Miami, but White decided to return home with the team. Many of his former and current teammates took to social media to show support:
