As much as I love both electric vehicles and Amazon deliveries, I hope I never see one of these vans in my neighborhood.
The EVs in question are produced by Rivian, and while they haven’t made their official debut yet, the YouTube account Drive Tesla Canada posted a video of one being tested in the wild. It looks great, but it sounds awful. That high-pitched hum is perfect for an episode of the X-Files or Unsolved Mysteries, but driving down my street? No thanks.
It turns out that since September of last year, U.S. law requires that electric cars emit a sound when moving slowly so pedestrians will know they're coming. These vans are still in the testing phase, so the sound could certainly change before official production begins.
