Papa's Pilar Rum Fishing Report (9/9/22)

Wahoo and Mahi-Mahi Might be the Ticket!

Pictured above is Deckland Fictelman and his dad John with his first swordfish from a few days back. The Fictelman family fished for two days catching plenty of mahi and this nice sword. The sword bite was mediocre as we only had 3 bites in two days of fishing. The great thing about swordfishing is that we are the floating object that the mahi-mahi are looking for. Almost every time we swordfish mahi swim right up to the boat and at times can truly make the day! There are plenty of mahi offshore right now so this weekend you may want to take a trip. Look for birds and scattered weeds.

We also caught a nice wahoo around 35 pounds earlier this week. I heard that Capt. Art Sapp on the “Native Son” caught a 50 pound and 40 pound wahoo on a trip while trolling planers around 200 feet of water. The moon is getting larger so the wahoo bite is getting ready to get good now.

Snappers are still biting on the reef but farther north up near Delray. The yellowtail bite was fierce on Wednesday with two boats catching plenty of flags in 70 feet of water. Flags is a fishing term for big Yellowtails.

Get tight!
