Mission Fishin' Travels to Islamorada for Snapper and Serenity
Pictured here are a few pictures from last weekend's outing in Islamorada. It was Gage Zoda's lucky day as he won the snapper pool with a beautiful mangrove snapper. We visited Bud and Mary's marina once again for our annual snapper trip aboard the Miss Islamorada donated by the Stanczyk family. One thing I can tell you is it sure is relaxing once you leave the confines of the city and enter into the Florida Keys. My blood pressure drops the minute I see that emerald green water and know that a fishing trip is on the horizon. We had over 30 people enjoy the afternoon catching snapper and several other species. This October will mark 10 years since the inception of Mission Fishin' and we sure are proud of the sponsors and volunteer network that has been a part of this organization over the years. Hanging out and riding on a boat with the families has created some of the most special memories in my life. If you would like to give of your time and or your boat please check out missionfishin.org for the dates and locations of our trips. A huge shoutout of thanks to the Katie and the Main Attraction Sailfish Tournament out of Marathon Florida for the wonderful donation. Thank you also to Jamie Bunn and Bluewater Movements for your tournament donation. We sure are able to do great things in the special needs community with this continued support.
As for local fishing the bite was pretty darn good this week. Blackfin tuna up to 30 pounds were caught on live bait as well as several big kingfish. The trolling boats put up nice catches of kingfish, wahoo and tuna with an occasional sailfish release. The fishing is very consistent right now so I would highly suggest taking a trip. The mahi fishing was rather slow this week offshore as was the swordfishing.
This is the time to really target snapper. Snapper can be caught anywhere between 40 and 125 feet. You can anchor and target mutton snapper as well as mangrove and yellowtail. As the moon gets bigger in the sky we are going to see an increase in the bite on these snapper. Anchoring the boat and chumming is the norm for this type of fishing. You can use live bait quality dead bait to get the bite.
Tune in to 105.9 the Paul Castronovo show on Friday morning at 6:35 for an update and current fishing report.
Tight lines!
